I waited patiently for the Lord; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry.

He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.

And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the Lord.

Blessed is that man that maketh the Lord his trust, and respecteth not the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies.

Psalm 40:1-4

All of this discussion of proper use of the internet and technology really falls under one heading – living righteously. We know the only way to live righteously is through faith. By faith we are reborn as new creatures, to serve Him.

For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.

1 John 5:4

So the first and most important step in achieving victory in these areas, is to build our faith, and our families’ faith. The Bible tells us that the exercise that strengthens our faith is reading and reflecting upon God’s Word.

“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one!  You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.  “And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates

Deuteronomy 6:4-9

“Therefore you shall lay up these words of mine in your heart and in your soul, and bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall teach them to your children, speaking of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. And you shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates, that your days and the days of your children may be multiplied in the land of which the Lord swore to your fathers to give them, like the days of the heavens above the earth.

Deuteronomy 11:13-21

So our plan is right here.

  • We show our family our love of the Lord by the time we spend with Him. We take the family to church whenever services are held, participate in brotherhood activities, and spend daily time together in the Word as a family.
  • Spend private time reading Scripture and praying daily.
  • Have daily family devotional time and spend time talking about what you read.
  • Memorize Scripture.
  • Have Bible verses visible in the house.
  • Intentionally talk about Bible lessons with your children. Take every opportunity to relate the days events to your faith.

As we build our faith and focus on the things God has done for us, our families’ appetite for righteousness will increase, and their appetite for the things of this world will decrease.

If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.

Colossians 3:1-4
